Allagash - Curieux
WWED Grade: A
Appearance: Cloudy.
Very tight, consistent bubble streams. Light head. Golden orange in color.
Smell: Sweet
smell. Almost floral. Malty, slightly sour. Possibly from the wood?
Taste: Yeah
– woody. Not smokey. Complex flavors – but I like it. Bourbonesque on my
breath. Similar to a Belgian.
Drinkability: Very drinkable beer. Medium carbonation that gets creamy if you slush.
Smooth, almost syrupy. You could drink this beer with a meal – but it does well
on it’s own.
ABV: 11%
YEE-HAW!!!
Serving Type: Bottle poured in pint.
Well – the label and
presentation of this beer in the bottle sells itself. Only 680 cases. Priced
around $17.00. Corked bottle. Ale Aged in Oak Bourbon Barrels. 11% ABV!
Okay…I’m curious. It also says this beer will age very well. Hmm…I may have to
try that – but not with this one…I’m thirsty. Allagash is known for their
unique craft ales, the Curieux certainly lived up to the hype. There is a
bourbon hint to this ale, though I’d prefer this to whiskey. You could drink it
under the same conditions though. After a long day. Maybe in the snow next to a
fire. After a meal with someone you’d like to impress. You won’t find this beer
at your local pub (unless that pub happens to be the City Beer Store, or maybe
Toronado). It’s worth hunting for if you’re up for the challenge. Any store
that carries this will certainly have a plethora of other quality brews to
enjoy as well. Good luck. Happy hunting!
