What Would Eli Drink?
Kasteel Rouge

Kasteel Rouge

WWED Grade: C

Appearance: Dark, dark red. Especially on the pour. Clear, burgundy. Little, almost no head.

Smell: Sour cherries. Like cherry cider.

Taste: Hmm…not like a Belgian. At least, not the Belgians I know. Slightly bitter on the sides. Very, very, very cherry. Like cherry juice, cider or soda. Is there really alcohol in this drink?

Drinkability: Very drinkable. Medium mild carbonation.

ABV: 8%

Serving Type: Bottle poured in glass.

Is this really a beer? And…a Belgian at that? Really??? Hmm…it was good, and I’d say they did a great job at masking anything that resembles a beer. It really was more like a cherry soda. It was so sweet, the glass even attracted a fruit fly! (not sure what that says about the cleanliness of my apartment) My friends that don’t really enjoy beer, would LOVE this “beer”. But for me, not so much. Wasn’t hoppy, malty, or really any distinct flavors that I look for in a beer. With the cherries mentioned on the label, I’d really hoped for something more along the lines of Ommegang’s Three Philosophers. It fell far short though…
