What Would Eli Drink?
Rogue Smoke Ale

Rogue - Smoke Ale

WWED Grade: B+

Appearance: Amber in color. ½” bubble streams. Little head that died fast.

Smell: Definitely smokey. Woody. Reminds me of smoked salmon.

Taste: Smokey – definitely. Smoked Salmon. Woody. I’m not picking up on any hops. Very distinct flavor. Almost overwhelming – but I kinda like that.

Drinkability: Very drinkable beer. Nice medium carbonation. Would go well with BBQ or smokey foods. But I’d appreciate it more on it’s own.

ABV: 7.5%(?)

Serving Type: Bottle poured in pint.

You’ll hate this beer if you don’t like smoked foods (especially smoked salmon). I happen to LOVE smoked foods AND smoked salmon AND this beer! Really – you’ll either love or hate it. Actually, when I bought this bottle (at the pub in North Beach), the waiter said he hated it. I decided to try it anyways. Seeing as I have so many positive reviews – I really didn’t want to like this beer. Oh well – I’m not about to write a bad review for the sake of writing a bad review. The smokey flavors are very distinct. I give them credit for that alone, it’s almost overwhelming – but tasteful in my book. I would have liked a little more hoppiness. Oh well - good job for crafting such a uniquely flavored beer!
